What are you going to do?

If your kids don't have school and your husband can't fly, why not get the two together? Blake called at about 9:30am and told me he was grounded (that just means he can't fly, not that he was bad) and asked what our plans were for MLK Day. Since I didn't have anything too pressing he asked if the kids and I would like to come over to Winslow and spend the day with him. So I packed up the kids, some food for a picnic and the baseball stuff (definitely a must around here) and we took off to Winslow to spend the day with Blake. First, we got to see the base and find out how Blake spends his days. Then we got to go out to the helicopter. The kids loved climbing inside and especially taking turns being the pilot.

I would have had Sedona climb in the helicopter with the others, but she was battling a case of pink eye, so given the nature of the helicopter I decided it best not to spread anything. So she just stayed outside with me, besides is was warmer out there in the sun.

Blake also showed the kids the tractor they pull the helicopter outside with. He even started it up and let the kids all turn the wheel. They used to have a really nice tractor, but Flagstaff took it even though the Winslow base flies more.

After that we decided to see the sites of Winslow. It did not take too long there is only one. "Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona" park. It literally is a monument to the song, right there on the corner. Here are a few pictures of us at the park, really not much to do, but the good thing is it also does not cost anything to go to this great monument.

After the splendid time at this park we went to a baseball field/park and had a quick lunch. Then we set up the baseball stuff (my kids are getting spring fever already, they love to play ball with Blake) and we played ball. Sorry I did not take pictures of that. A woman can only hold on to so many things at a time, and since I really did not want to put Sedona down (because of the pink eye) and I forgot the stroller (apparently a woman can also only remember so many things), I did not have a spare hand to hold on to the camera and play ball. For the record, I was not in the outfield trying to catch a ball with a baby in my hands. I was in charge of putting the ball on the "T". The kids do well with a pitcher, but again we were limited to so many hands.
