Field Trip

Last week Summit got to be a part of preschool. We got invited to go on a couple field-trips. The first was to the fire station. If I was more organized I would have those picture on here, but I forgot my camera in the van so I don't have any. Either way Summit still had a lot of fun. The fireman talked all about tools vs toys. And when we call 911. He got all dressed up in his uniform. And they even got to spray the hose. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever.

The second field trip was to the EMS helicopters and ambulances. We first talked about who rides in the helicopters and why. Each kids got to sit in the helicopter and try on the headset.

Each kid also got to sit on the tractor (they use that to pull the helicopter out of the hanger).

Blake talked about the pilot and how he moves the blades.

While we were finishing up with checking out the helicopter they crew got a call. So we got to watch them prepare to take off and then finally take off. Each kid got his very own EMS helicopter. It was such a blast!!! I sure am going to miss all these sweet kids when we move in four days (no, I am not crying..............right now).

Looks nearly move-in ready?

On Sunday, right after church and with our lunch all packed we made a trip out to the house hoping to see stucco, paint, tile, linoleum, carpet, appliances and cabinets. When we got to the house we found the doors all locked up and we got very excited. After a few failed attempts to break in to our house, I used my detective skills to find the keys. As I walked through the house to open the back door that Blake was attempting to break in to, I found myself greatly disappointed. We did find the house painted, always a good thing. We also found carpet, unfortunately it was not quite how we hoped.

It was there, cut and ready to be installed but they had to wait for the linoleum to be laid down.

We did find the linoleum..... all rolled up in a corner of the kitchen (it is behind that pony wall). Apparently they had to put some thinset down before they could lay the linoleum. One would ask themselves if this is being done by people who have done this before?

The railing at least had been started and looks very nice.

This is something we were very excited about. They had the master bathroom all tiled including the shower. It looks really good.

Here is another bright spot of our trip. We kept telling the kids that we would go walk around the temple, but had not done it yet. Since we had some time and nowhere to really be we went and walked around the Temple grounds. It was so beautiful!!!! The down side was the the wind was blowing so hard that I thought we could have tied a string to each of the kids and let them fly like a kite. Alas, I was out of string.

Fourth-Grade Creativity!!!!

Savannah came home about two weeks ago and told me about this project she had to do. She was assigned to make a 3-D model of a life-sized white-tailed deer. My first thought was, "Are you kidding me?" Then after the initial shock wore off, I did my best to embrace this thought. Since we were also told this was supposed to be a "family project," we sat down and staring figuring it out. First thing I want to ask...... what is with all these "family projects" we are getting assigned from the school. Don't they realize that some folks really do spend time with their family and don't have to be given a homework assignment to be together. Anyway, we set down to figure this out. In the end we decided on a baby deer, that is laying down (both my ideas, I know I am a genius). So to make this baby deer we have a large stuffed bear taped together to make the body and neck. Paddles from a yard game for the top part of the legs, then attached to that we have toilet paper rolls covered in butcher paper for the bottom part of the legs. There is a blanket skillfully shaped by Blake for the head. Blake also masterfully cut out the ears and tail. Savannah helped tape all the paper on, glued the little spots on and the big patches of white in the ears and under the tail. She also drew the eyes, nose, mouth and hooves. The end result is this.

On Friday, the 27th the whole fourth grade had a forest full of animals. Here is how some of the other animals turned out.

And of course, one more photo of our "family project"

Savannah really had a great time putting all this together. I really hope she is able to keep her positive attitude about school work despite my grumbling. I really need to work on that. I need to start embracing these projects and seeing them as great opportunities.

Two-wheeler!!!!!

As of March 21st Saige is riding a two-wheeler!!!!! It did not take her too long. Blake took the bikes down and Saige decided she wanted her training wheels off (something I have been trying to convince her to do for over a year, but she had to decide). So I took them off for her and spent about 10 minutes helping her to stay balanced, and then off she went.

She was so excited about the whole thing. Blake came out planning on helping her and she already had it down. She loved being out with the other two girls. Way to go, Saige!!!!!!
