Fourth-Grade Creativity!!!!

Savannah came home about two weeks ago and told me about this project she had to do. She was assigned to make a 3-D model of a life-sized white-tailed deer. My first thought was, "Are you kidding me?" Then after the initial shock wore off, I did my best to embrace this thought. Since we were also told this was supposed to be a "family project," we sat down and staring figuring it out. First thing I want to ask...... what is with all these "family projects" we are getting assigned from the school. Don't they realize that some folks really do spend time with their family and don't have to be given a homework assignment to be together. Anyway, we set down to figure this out. In the end we decided on a baby deer, that is laying down (both my ideas, I know I am a genius). So to make this baby deer we have a large stuffed bear taped together to make the body and neck. Paddles from a yard game for the top part of the legs, then attached to that we have toilet paper rolls covered in butcher paper for the bottom part of the legs. There is a blanket skillfully shaped by Blake for the head. Blake also masterfully cut out the ears and tail. Savannah helped tape all the paper on, glued the little spots on and the big patches of white in the ears and under the tail. She also drew the eyes, nose, mouth and hooves. The end result is this.

On Friday, the 27th the whole fourth grade had a forest full of animals. Here is how some of the other animals turned out.

And of course, one more photo of our "family project"

Savannah really had a great time putting all this together. I really hope she is able to keep her positive attitude about school work despite my grumbling. I really need to work on that. I need to start embracing these projects and seeing them as great opportunities.

You guys have definately got the creativity part down. Heather, I hope you're making a portfolio of all your "family projects". You're doing great. Thankfully, I don't have as many "family projects" as you, to work on

As for the portfolio, that is what this blog is for. That way if I ever need to show someone I can be creative, then they would hire me. I only have two more to go with the current school. Sierra & Saige both have projects involving animals that are due just before we move.

Wow, that was rather impressive I must say. There is no way I have that much creativity anywhere inside of me.
